The critical importance of monetary donations:
People living in poverty have a variety of needs, some of which extend beyond food. Monetary donations allow us to meet those diverse needs and target our food purchases toward food items that we are short of. Also we have access to bulk purchasing programs that can return significantly more food per dollar than simple retail purchasing. All that said, we also want our local food stores to operate profitably and so we appreciate those donors who prefer to purchase food, personal and household items on our behalf.
