The Food Bank Resource Centre

The Summerland Resource Centre strives to serve as a one-stop source of information and assistance to Summerland residents in times of need. The Centre is operated by the Summerland Food Bank and includes the following services:

  • Drop-in information centre. Come in, pick up a coffee and browse the information library or chat to our experienced staff and volunteers;
  • Free Internet Service. use our computer workstations and printer. Conduct your own research on the web, develop and print your own application forms, resumes or job applications, send and receive email and more;
  • Referral Services. Pick up application form sets for a variety of social services with assistance from our staff and volunteers. Discover what services are available to meet your specific needs and let our staff put you in touch with the right people;
  • Meet representatives of social service agencies. Some Penticton service providers send their representatives to Summerland to meet with you locally. The Resource Centre provides office space for these meetings. Appointments should be made with the specific agency whenever possible. If you are having difficulties making appointments or are unsure which agency to contact please Contact the Resource Centre.

If you provide services to people in Summerland…

and you would like to use the services of the Summerland Resource Centre or one of its shared offices to serve those clients, please read this section. If we can help in the administration of your services we are happy to do so to the best of our ability. Some services we can provide are:

  • Booking our meeting rooms for you to meet with your clients in Summerland;
  • Booking your clients for appointments in our offices on the days that you have arranged to use our office space;
  • Keeping up-to-date information about the services you provide in our information centre;
  • Referring clients to you as a result of our knowledge of the services you provide;
  • Any other services that will be of benefit to Summerland residents.

The Penticton & Area Access Society

A representative from the Penticton & Area Access Society is present in the resource centre most Thursday mornings however appointments are strongly recommended – use the link to the PAAS website above to contact them.

The Ministry of Social Development & Poverty Reduction 

A representative from the Ministry is present in the resource centre most Friday afternoons however appointments are strongly recommended – click the Contact Us link above for ways to request an appointment.

Work BC

Work BC shares our office facility and is open during the same hours as the Resource Centre. If you are looking for employment or have a position to fill, come in and let us help.

OneSky Community Resources

OneSky provides a very wide variety of social service programs, many under contract to the government – for example Child Care Subsidy program applications. Appointments to meet with PDCRS staff in Summerland are required and information on various programs can be found using the above link to PDCRS’s website.

Harm Reduction Partnership with OneSky

The focus of these services is to improve the wellbeing of people who are vulnerable to blood-borne infections, due to social and economic barriers, substance use, mental illness, sex work and/or isolation. Supplies are available in our resource centre.

The BC Schizophrenia Society

The Schizophrenia Society provides a very wide range of services related to mental health. Contact the society through the website link above.

BC Mental Wellness Centre

A representative from the BC Mental Wellness Centre Centre is present in the resource centre some Tuesday mornings however appointments are required – use the link to the Schizophrenia Society’s website above to make an appointment in Summerland.

Family Support

When a person has a mental illness – Support and education on all major mental illnesses including but not limited to Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Mood Disorders, and Anxiety Disorders.

Summerland Office Hours are Tuesdays from 10 am to 12 pm or phone Robbie at (250) 488-4895.

Free Relaxation Training Courses are also offered from time to time – contact the Resource Centre.

Penticton Excel

The Penticton Centre for Exceptional Learning offers a learning centre designed and staffed specifically for students with high functioning autism – a centre where being “unique” is “normal”. The Summerland Food Bank & Resource Centre provides volunteer work experience for Penticton Excel students in addition to a referral service.

Okanagan Similkameen Neurological Society (OSNS)

The mission of the OSNS Child Development Centre is to promote the physical, psychological and emotional well-being of children in the South Okanagan and Similkameen regions by providing:

  • Assessment
  • Education
  • Rehabilitation
  • Prevention
  • Early Intervention
  • Program Consultation

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)

Having trouble with your taxes? Make an appointment with a tax expert by contacting the Resource Centre. This is a free service for people with low incomes available to Summerland residents at the Resource Centre.

South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services (SOICS)

SOICS is dedicated to building a welcoming and inclusive community by promoting cultural harmony and diversity based on the mutual respect and full participation of all people from all backgrounds. SOICS provides a one-stop shop including a range of services to immigrants, temporary foreign workers, post-secondary international students and refugees through education, advocacy and projects that assist in their integration. Okanagan College Free Literacy Program

Available to adults whose first language is not English. Improve your writing or math skills, work one-on-one with a volunteer tutor at the Resource Centre in Summerland.
